Dr. Crystal Lock
Veterinarian
Dr. Crystal Lock, a Pennsylvania native, earned her undergraduate degree from Penn State University and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from St. George’s University in Grenada. She completed her clinical training at North Carolina State University and began her career in Hagerstown before joining Hillside.
Dr. Lock has a special interest in internal medicine, wellness care, and dermatology. She also finds great fulfillment in supporting patients and their families through palliative and end-of-life care.
She lives in the area with her husband and daughter, along with their two dogs, Clementine and Melon, and two cats, Black Cat and Pinky. Outside of veterinary medicine, Dr. Lock enjoys gardening, cooking, and photography.

Dr. Tara Trumler
Veterinarian
Originally from Nebraska, Dr. Tara Trumler earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Nebraska at Kearney and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Kansas State University. She practiced in Nebraska, Kentucky, and Ohio before settling in West Virginia. Dr. Trumler has a special interest in dentistry, ophthalmology, and preventive care.
She lives with her husband, Dan, a local equine surgeon, and their four children. Their family includes a rescue dachshund named Gretta and a lively yellow Labrador named Mable.

Dr. Kayla Broeker
Veterinarian
Dr. Kayla Broeker, originally from South Carolina, completed her undergraduate degree at Clemson University and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at Kansas State University. She has an interest in preventive care medicine and veterinary acupuncture.
Dr. Broeker has a dog named Robin and two cats named Marvin and Peri. In her free time she enjoys playing the bass guitar, reading, and sketching.

Dr. Kelly Altendorf
Veterinarian
Dr. Kelly Altendorf is originally from East Fallowfield, Pennsylvania. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Biology and Chemistry from Immaculata University before completing her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine at Oregon State University. After graduation, she returned to the East Coast and joined Hillside. Dr. Altendorf has a special interest in feline medicine and is an active member of the American Association of Feline Practitioners, staying current on the latest advancements in feline internal medicine. She also has a strong passion for senior pet and hospice care, including pain management, and enjoys performing diagnostic ultrasounds to help guide treatment plans.
When she’s not caring for patients, Dr. Altendorf enjoys spending time at home with her husband, Kyle, their two sons, Henry and Oliver, and their 16 cats. She also helps care for her neighborhood’s feral cat colony and enjoys quiet moments with her family.

Dr. Tara Butler
Veterinarian
Dr. Tara Butler grew up in Harper’s Ferry, WV, and began her career at Hillside as a kennel tech before quickly advancing to a veterinary assistant. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology with dual minors in Nutrition and Chemistry from Shepherd University in just three years. Dr. Butler completed her veterinary education at Mississippi State University. Her professional interests include physical therapy and rehabilitation, as well as integrating traditional and alternative medicine to help animals live their best lives while strengthening the human-animal bond.
Outside of the clinic, Dr. Butler is an avid equestrian, having competed in hunter/jumper classes before transitioning to western riding. She shares her home with her husky, Kokomo Paisley, and two horses. In her free time, she enjoys riding, hiking, running, and reading.

Dr. Grace Sollenberger
Veterinarian
Dr. Grace Sollenberger is originally from Hagerstown, MD. She earned her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from St. George’s School of Veterinary Medicine.
She has a special interest in oncology; following cancer cases from diagnosis through treatment. She also enjoys soft tissue surgery and advanced dentistry.

Dr. Janet Olcott
Veterinarian
Dr. Janet Olcott earned her undergraduate degree from Mount Holyoke College and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Missouri. With a professional background spanning several decades, enjoys performing veterinary acupuncture and has a special interest in geriatric and internal medicine.
Originally from the D.C. Metro area, Dr. Olcott now resides in beautiful Shepherdstown, West Virginia, with her husband, daughter, and their lively menagerie of pets — including one cat, two dogs, two goats, and 19 miniature horses. Outside the clinic, she spends her time with her family and driving her miniature horses.
